Great staff - lovely hotel - good location - dreadful room
Super location near the museum district and close to the Theatres and walking distance to the old town. Reception staff were courteous and very helpful. The cafe bar was atmospheric and we enjoyed having a drink there. We booked this hotel after reading great reviews and looking at the room photos. We were beyond disappointed with our room allocation 540 - 5th floor end of the corridor - the windows were so high up we couldn’t see out and if you were short I don’t know how you would have pulled the curtains on. There was also a velux Window in the roof. The bed was pushed up against the wall. The carpet was grubby and in the whole room was in need of an update. It was narrow and shabby. After all the lovely rooms pictured on line - this was no comparison. Our 1st night was at the conscious hotel Westerpark which although further out was spotlessly clean, trendy, Eco friendly and gorgeous - we wish we had stayed there again. We would not wish to stay here at the American Hotel because of our dreadfully disappointing room.
wonderful hotel with excellent staff and facilities
we had a short 2 night stay here which was definitely not long enough. From start to finish we were made to feel special. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully decorated. The hotel is in an excellent location.
The only hotel we stay with in Amsterdam!
We’ve now traveled as a couple to Amsterdam four times, and this is the hotel we always stay in. The rooms are very well decorated, and we always opt for the balcony room which may overlook the canal or Leidseplein. The staff are friendly and helpful and the convenience of location (right next to Leidseplein but set back from the busy square or streets itself) makes this hotel simply perfect for us.
