Can walk practically anyplace from this location
We stayed at the American Hotel on Leidsekade the first time as part of our tour. We loved its old world charm and great location that we came back for a stay on our own this time!! Our room was 133 and had a beautiful stained glass window in it. We stayed in Nov. 2019 and it was in transition from the American Hotel to a Hard Rock!! We bought the package with breakfast included. It is so good- a buffet with alot of choices. The waiter came to our table and offered my tea drinking friend a nice choice of teas! We walked to tons of shopping and even walked home from the XtraCold Icebar. My phone died in Iceland so when staying in Amsterdam took my phone to the Celly Shop down the road. They were so great and spent hours fixing the phone and put in a new battery. It got me by for months until I was able to get a new one. Love this hotel!!
Lovely staff, some building issues
Our first room was in the attic space and felt very claustrophobic. We were moved the next day to a more appropriate room, which was lovely. Heating system was very noisy. Restaurant food was great, to be recommended. Refurbishment works are in progress which we were not aware of when booking.
The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. The room was a good size and the beds very comfortable. We liked the Nespresso machine in the room. The location is perfect for walking distance to the museums and canal boat rides.
Renovation was going on
When we did the booking, we did not read "the read more" because there was told that there were renovation going on, which was big disappointment. The hotel staff was very friendly, but the restaurant waiter was totally lost, forgot even our wine order etc. Best thing was absolutely the location. Rooms were very small, at first even a bit cold, bed was ok. In the morning some dude was knocking on the door and asked about service, I still dont know what service... It seems also that hotel is a party place because there were plenty of noice coming for other rooms, which was really disrupting. Some younger people were playing music very loud and we needed to call to reception a couple of times. So if you are looking more relaxing place, then it is not this hotel...
Reception were ok not amazing. Had requested twin room as travelling with male chum but got given double bedded room with no option to change so we had to deal with it though they did at least, upon request, provide a second duvet so we could ‘separate’ in that respect. Bathroom fine. Liked the room. Not 100% clean but ok.
